postcard love

Spray Painted Background
Original drawing by me
Black pen
White out (correction)

1.  This might be my favourite postcard of all time.  I had the background done
ages ago in the summer when you can spray paint here.
I brought it out tonight and the penguin just came to me
only had to paint the white, used the background as the rest.

2.  Hubby and I took fridge apart as it was leaking water from the freezer. Cleaned
it all out, here is hoping it will work again.

3.  Weather not to cold, weekend has been great, warm  enough to have barbequed
steak tonight.
What have you been up to?

Its all about mittens, coleslaw and transfer techniques

Today I went out and bought a pair of these mittens, to show my Olympic spirit.  Ok there is not much snow in Vancouver where the  Olympics are, but there is a few days left for everyone to pray for snow.  Now usually Canada does pretty good in the winter Olympics, because we are a winter country after all.  Ok the USA and Russia do the best.  As you can tell I love the Olympics and I should be there....but who can afford it.  After I did the shopping I took my Mama for lunch and a bit of shopping for magazines that she likes.  Came home walked the devil dog, and made dinner. Today for dinner was cole slaw.  I make the best coleslaw (lol) blow my own horn., and chicken quesadilla and now watching the tv and thinking about transfer techniques that never work for me.

I usually buy the readymade coleslaw mix and add apples:
On the stove put 1/4 cup of
oil
sugar
vinegar
Stir till start boiling and take off heat
pour over your coleslaw and cover and put in fridge till ready to eat.  Stays good in fridge for about a week, not to greasy, not to sweet just right.

What did you do today?

I have a new tool.....get your mind out of the gutter

Pentel Squeezeable White Out pen, I use it for everything.  I use it as a white pen, writes really great, you can get it in fine, and medium.  The postcard that I altered I used whiteout pen on it.  This is my new tool..  Whats tool do you use the most?
Well today when I got on the computer I put on my glasses, which I need to go computer work and read.  And my vision went really funny, I thought oh my god, overnight my vision has gone on me.  So the shopper comes in the den and I tell her my vision has overnight gone bad.  She has this funny look on her face and says to me, maybe its because you only have one lens in your glasses. (lol).  The other lens was still in the glass case.  Now you really know I am getting old.
I have been working on my postcards, and getting my technique figured out.  But other than that, nothing in my life to exciting how about yours?

When Irish eyes are smiling

Irish Soda Bread
Whole Wheat Flour, White Flour, Baking Soda, Buttermilk
Cheddar Cheese, Green Oinions
Taste Factor:  Good

Last night for dinner I made this Irish Soda Bread it was a hit, the picture does not do it justice. It takes no rising time, and bakes in about 30 minutes. I made roast beef last night in the crock pot. Do you make your roast in the Crockpot, saves time for me. What else do you cook in your Crockpot. I make Spaghetti, I have made apple crisp, onion soup, meatballs, and the list goes on.

Well today I am finishing my calendar art and hope to show you that. The weather is great and going to take advantage of that and take the devil dog to the doggy park for a bit of off leash playing. I am feeling much better like my old self, so some maintenance around the homestead is required. What are you doing today?

Dribble Drabble

How are you all , I have been trying to make some art, but having a bit of a creative block.  So I have been looking at blogs and books.  Yesterday picked up Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studio, and Art Journalling.  Trying to kick start my brain.  Does not seem to be working....but trying.  Am also taking a Photoshop class fromhttp://djpettitt.blogspot.com/ but the old noggin does not seem to grasp it.  But am plugging along.  I do know how to do some stuff with photoshop easy stuff, but when it comes to layers....egh not good.  Other than that, the shopper came home from Florida had a great time and is planning her next adventure which I am thinking about going with her.  New York is a place I have always wanted to go and visit, so does the Shopper so we might go there we will see.   The place is so darned expensive so this retired gal might have to start saving her pennies (lol).  Well enough of this dribble if your not snoring loudly you should be, lets hope some excitement comes into my life soon so I have something worthwhile to say.  Signing off now talk to you soon.

The dancing red shoes.......read if you dare

Over at http://mermaidtango.blogspot.com/ she has posted that every Wednesday she is going to post a topic to do some creative writing, and her challenge was to play along.  Well I have always loved to write short stories, so here is mine.  The clues we had to use was coffee grounds, and Ciudad Jurarez.

The Red Dancing Shoes

It all started with a simple cup of coffee. Now I like coffee that is steaming hot full of flavor and foreign. IN my humble opinion no coffee is worth its grounds if it don’t come from Mexico. Okay that is where I am from a little border town called Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. How did a girl from Ciudad end up in the big bad city of New York it’s a long story so get out that cup of java and sit yourself down…

As I said I grew up in Mexico. My parents were travelling pickers, who liked to call themselves farmers. We would travel looking for work anywhere . Place to place picking anything the gringos wanted. And always praying that our beat up pickup would get us to the next job.. Dad and Mum, and us 12 kids, yes you heard right 12 kids, the more kids the more money you got cause you picked more. We often travelled up to Florida during the picking season to pick oranges and then back to Mexico always trying to stay out of the border patrols way. Well every time we went to the good old USA I learned a little more of what I was missing. Like good food, money in your pocket, clothes on your back. But my dilemma was how to get it. Here I was a 16 year old girl, with no schooling and no money. I did have a few things going for me, good looks, long shiny black hair, a body that could stop a truck on a dime and I knew how to dance. One day while picking out in the fields I stumbled across of buried red dancing shoes., tried them on and of course they fit me perfectly, sounds unbelievable right.

Now the story gets kind of good as I decided to try them out in a Cantina at home.. I put on my faded dress of red, with a low neckline and flounces at the bottom . It used to belong to my mother back in the day she used to dance at the fiesta. So I started off and walked that long dusty path to the Cantina, sauntered up to the bar had a swig of Tequila for my nerves. The band was playing a slow sensuous song about a lost love. My feet hit the floor and they started moving to the rhythm and the beat, my body swayed and shook. It’s as if my body had a rhythm of its own and was taking me away from the dirt, and poverty but to a valley of green, that was always clean and sunny., Before I knew it the song was over, and as I came out of my stupor I noticed that there was a gringo at the door staring at me. He came over and asked if he could buy me a drink, I demurely said coffee, and the rest of the is history

What did you look like in grade 5

Class picture- I think grade 5

I am the one rocking the headband.  I am in the middle row. Nice looking class (lol).  But I look at this and there is one girl in that picture that i remember, the fashionista of the group the one in the front row wearing the scarf I cant remember her name.  I cant even remember what grade we were in.  I envy those people that have great memories and can look at a picture and remember who they were. What did you look like in grade 5...post your picture so I can see it.

Well today is the day that  http://djpettitt.blogspot.com/ online photoshop class begins.  I am really excited about this.  I have photoshop mind you only photoshop 7, but I like it and it works for me.  The program is so big and you can do so much, I have only scratched the surface.  You can turn your pictures into peices of art....well maybe not mine but we will see.  This year I decided  not to take to many classes (they do add up). I have enjoyed all the classes I have taken and got my moneys worth on all them  and learned alot.  I can recommend them....

Well I better get going its 8:29 and lots to do today so talk to you tommorow.

Hello 2010

Art Journal 2009
A small piece of fabric and a face drawn underneath, a page from my art journal

Ah 2010....goodbye 2009 it was a good year, but I know 2010 will be a great year.  Dont you just feel it in your bones, I am always excited when a New Year approaches, new plans, I always feel re-born , that anything can be accomplished.

Well on the first day of 2010 we will be going to be the airport, to say goodbye to my sister.  Hiding from the cold weather and just chilling.  The decorations are down, they were down on boxing day.  You would never know that Christmas was in this house.  I have some new books to read, some art to do, my studio has been calling me.  Some laundry to do, and some play time with devil dog.

What's on your list for this first day of 2010, I love saying that.
