dinner tonight but really how busy is it going to be

so I said no, and i am making turkey meatballs, and if that

Pursing Heads

I am taking Pam |Carrikers class Pursing Portraits, because I would like to be able to draw people realistically, I mean not draw you, but a person who actually looks like a person, do that make sense to you.
I love Pam's people she draws, her style, not that I want to draw like , but I to be able to draw people.

I have been drawing them in my sketch book and critiquing my work. What I like and what I don't like.
So then I can try and improve on things I don't like, for example the mouth needs major work, and I like
one of her eyes, the right one.

this book started out as the Book of Days,

and it has morphed into the book of me

I am going my own way, not really

following along, so here it is. The art

The cover is glued and varnished.

The spine is covered with a brown paper bag

and the music notes are tim holtz tissue paper

The Name Game

First off I wanted to thank everyone who commented on my last post. I truly appreciate all your caring words.

Now when I was younger I wanted to be Heidi, it was a book I read over and over again.

Don't ask me why I was thinking about Heidi when I was watching the Cops show, but

it just popped up in my every day book. And yes I know I spelled her name two

ways, but I decided if I was a Heidi, I would spell my name the other way (lol).

Did you ever have a favourite character in a book you read when you were younger?

Still crazy after all these years

Today i am going to tell you one thing about me, that you don't know,

otherwise I am an open book. I rewrote this sentence at least

50 times, because I feel i am better now, but there is

no sugar coating this, i suffer from depression. Yep

thats right me, i went to that dark place about

3 years ago. Just a few months before i retired. I

was overwhelmed, with my sisters death, my

mothers grief, her moving here, my family

problems, i couldn't cope. I started

falling asleep at work (not a good thing to do),

i was so tired i could not get out of the

car, sometimes, i would just sit

in the driveway and sleep. And

worst of all i was closing my eyes while driving.

That's when I reached out for help, first

to my doctor, who got me started

on a regiment of pills, and then

to a therapist to talk it out. I can tell you

she helped me the most. I was trying to be

everything to everybody, and nothing to me. I went

on sick leave from work, until i retired. And finally

months and months later i started to feel like

my old self again. Why am I spilling my guts out on

the Internet you might ask yourself, that's so

private. But its not , today in Canada it is

Mental Health week, and if this touches someone

anyone, who thinks god I am like that, see

someone, it can make a world of difference.

Okay that's the end of my touch feely story, and now its back to reqular business.

This was February cracked, and this is what I saw

getting ready to watch the Superbowl
have steak, potatoes, mushrooms and quiona salad
gave in and went and got the tape, i love it
was out shopping with the shopper, bought some new Nike Runners so that when I run the New York marathon next year, i will be ready, ok i wont be running the marathon but I still needed new extremely stylish runners, so people will think I am so athletic.

I know i have mentioned before that i have an everyday book,

one that sits beside me in the studio, while watching tv. I treat this

book badly, its out of its cover, there is paint, and markers all over

I stick anything I find it, I write grocery lists, generally

just abuse it. I guess its sort of my art journal ling book.

But i like to think its my idea book. Take for example

this little guy above, he is not perfect, its something

i sketched and used markers on for an idea, maybe

i will use that idea maybe i wont, but its down

Everything you do does not have to be perfect

Ok, I have the skinny on all things pens, from the

queen of all pens , Kelly Kilmer http://kellykilmer.blogspot.com/and I quote

I had a whole basket of pretty pens that I had to toss because none of them (100 or so pens) worked. I'm a lay those pens down flat now

I really appreciated that she took the time to comment, and everybody elses comments. So my pens are now laying down flat, to much money to waste. On other news, there

Hey, how are you all doing? Yesterday absent from the blog , was going to my course that I am taking
Healthy Living, Healthy Body. Because I really want to stop my 4 pk a day habit of smoking, drinking a48 bottle for breakfast, and doing drugs. (lol) which by the way I don't do. But this is the year I am going to get healthy mind and body.

As you can see from the picture those are my markers, (not all of them just the ones I use the most) obsession or what, anyway I had them in a box, then saw a you tube video on storing them this way. Now I don't know which way is right lying them down, or standing them up. Some say that they dry out faster if you stand them up. What do you think? Also I really want you guys to watch this video, if you like washi tape, and find it to expensive to buy, this is the coolest thing ever, make you own, use fabric, paper whatever, I am definitely going to try it. I was kind of an oddball when I was growing up

I loved to read for hours on end

draw, and I could just be happy on my own.

Where as my older sister was always out with friends,

chasing boys and generally getting into some form of

trouble, (of course I was envious wishing I

could be that kind of girl, and looking up

to my older sister). But years later when

we were older, my sister told me she

was envious of me because I was

the one who could just be happy, and

had no need to prove herself to others.

I started out with just wavy lines. I was practising my lettering. I know I know

I got the song wrong. I sing it all the time around the house and

just make up my own words. Anyway after the lettering was

finished and I noticed the song was wrong, i started doodling

around with the lines, and came up with some characters. And it

looked to cutesy (and you know I don't do cutesy). I tried

to grunge it up. But it still does kinda look cutesy. So

i guess sometimes I do, do cutesy but don't tell anybody.

and put my Tombow markers to use, I only had 4, and I wet

them and they act like water colour, today I went and

bought 3 more so now I have 7. There is 91 in a set

so I don't become a hermit. One nice think about where I live
though it might be so cold you could freeze in a minute, the sun

Finding my muse

Last night while in bed, I was thinking about muses. I

was wondering why I don't have one, I have looked

all over the studio, asked it to

come out and talk to me. But no muse

I finally realized its only me in the studio. How

do I know this well If I had a muse it would not have

let me put those black lines around the whole

Last night while watching mindless TV, I was sketching, and using

my Tombow markers, this is what I came up with, actually

I made two, but they are different, I didn't do them in my

art book, I did them in my everyday book that I write

grocery lists, phone numbers, things that need to be done

these are just sketches and ideas for future drawings, and

paintings that I felt the need to get down and explore.

i use a lazy Susan, and some containers I found at home goods, on my table, cheap and expensive paints
together, on the lazy Susan they turn so I can see everything at a glance. |The mediums and containers of
paint I store behind me in the selves

I store all my paper in this sweater rack I found at the goodwill store, all scrap paper etc, I have
not filled it all up yet, as It is fairly a recent addition to the studio, but now I can find paper at a glance

I have this roll cart for ages, I see now Michael's carry them, I have load of things in them , not all
labelled yet, I have pastels, pens, carving tools, watercolours, glues

right behind where I sit I have a screen modem that I use my laptop with when I watch a online video
demonstration, and my sewing machine next to it, when I want to sew paper etc.

Sometimes I don't want to sit and create so this is my stand up area, where all the magic happens (lol) or my cutting area,

right across from where I sit is a rack that holds my paintings, books, my stereo, containers, brushes

this is where I have my easel, see that closed door that is where

I put my paper holder in the previous picture

Nice tape this is a folding table that i bought to create on, and If I clear the other side I can have a partner

come over and create with me, your all invited. I know I am lucky to have my own space to create and make a mess and just walk out if I want to.

Mini studios on the move

I find that sometimes I don't want to create in the studio, I want to

be where all the action is , watch tv, once in awhile talk to Hubby.

So I bring stuff from the studio but then all my art stuff is all over the place in my house.

So I went out and bought this bench its faux leather i think it was 80 bucks. Not only do I get extra

seating in the family room but I got the storage I needed. This baby was full, but i

just took a bunch back down to the studio, and this

is what is left. You could also use those little

leatherette stools that open for storage. So if you think you cant

create art because you dont have a studio, you are wrong. You

don't have to pay a ton to have your supplies handy Tomorrow I will show you how I store my paints

so that they are handy and ready for use in the studio.

Bitten off more than I can chew

I think I have bitten off more than I can chew!

I wanted to do the Postcard, the 10minutes sketch each day

and the book of days. Plus some other art, the blog, the house, friends a life.

So I made executive decision,

1. I will continue with the 10 minute sketches

after all they are only 10 minutes no more and I need the practice as you can

see above

2. The book of days is manageable for me

and I really want to do that one.

3. So yep you guessed it, I am not going

to do the postcard one

Better to know that now before getting started. So what are you doing art wise

this year?

Extremes

We have had extreme weather here

this morning it poured rain, and the wind howled

and its way above zero, now where I

live once winter comes, its here

and its a deep freeze until spring.

So watch out Hawaii before you

we do alot of talking about the weather (lol)

Priortize my life

I dont make resolutions because when I fail I beat myself up over it.

But this year I want to make more time for my art,

I dont know why I dont have more time, I dont work, I

thought that when I didnt work I would not know what to

do with myself. So here is what I am going to start doing

1. Go on the computer only once a day at the end of the

day while I am sitting watching tv, and then I can

browse as long as i want. I can

go hours, just checking blogs, art sites.

2. Plan a specific time when I go to the studio each

day.

3. Get a specific schedule for the house

certain days, the wash etc

I used to go to the studio at night and spend hours

down there, but now that I don't work I don't

have to do that, I should be able to get

everything done around the house

and have plenty of time left for me.

2011 in a nutshell

made some good and bad art

took alot of courses and learned alot

have 112 followers (thank you)

made many good blogging friends

grieved over the loss of my mother

had a few scary health concerns (good now)

took a few trips

had fun times with good friends

watched my daughter grow as a woman

celebrated my 39the wedding anniversary

helped my sister

tonight we are staying home having a quiet new year

sometimes we don't even make it up for new years,

we are going today at 1:00 pm to have lunch with

friends at the Red Lobster...my favourite place on earth.

Do you have a favourite drawing, painting, sketch that you

like above anything else you have ever created?

I do, this one, its not pretty, its not even that

good technically, she looks like she

has had a bad batch of botox, but

it represents me who I am as an

I cant draw or paint realistically, no

matter how hard I try, so I decided

Imperfection

When you make art do you love what you produce immediately?

I must say sometimes, I am satisfied with it, sometimes

I hate it, sometimes I am happy with imperfection.

I think that some of the great painters of years ago

struggled with the same worries about

there art, as we do. I am sure Picasso must

have produced a few stinkers in his time. But

I guess what we all have to remember

is what we see as an imperfection\

others see as perfection.

the well has run dry this week. The feeling of blogging

is not there. Is it the season? Is it sometimes you need

to take a break. I kept going by Zorans blog, but

she had not posted in awhile. Finally a post

if she was alright. She was she had just

up and quit her blog, she thought nobody

Today was a lunch with best friends, and exchange of gifts,

I bought a couple of prints from one of my favourite artists

on her website, mounted them, painted the canvas, and some

other things for them. They loved them. I love giving

gifts that mean something. We had a great lunch

and a good time. We don't just do it at Christmas

we try to all get together at least once a month

you need to keep in touch with friends. We need

family, but you also need friends.

Snow Birds

Where I live in Alberta, we have long, cold winters, and

for those that can afford it, usually there winter holidays

or winters are spent in either Arizona, or California. Now if

you lived on the east coast of Canada, your winter

destination would be Florida. They call us

Snow birds, going south for the winter. If you

I have been out of commission these past few days, with a fever,

heavy cough and really bad cold But today, I am feeling a bit

better, I have a few things that need to get

done. Hubby is home on holidays so he is doing his

best with the errands that I give him, but you know

men, they dont get exactly what you want.

Other than that no news, this is a postcard I did a while

back and never showed anyone.

The shopper and I have been busily making magic bags.

For those of you who don't know what magic bags are

these ones are full of Flax Seed, all you do

is heat them up in the microwave for a couple

of minutes, and you can put them on achy spots,

or if your cold to warm you up, you can also

put them in the freezer if you need a cold compress.

I have been using mine all weekend, as I have

come down with a really bad cold, and congestion

aches all over my body. I love mine not shown,

These ones are for her co-workers, we have

quite the assembly line going, she cuts, I sew,

we fill, and I sew closed. Most of this is done

on the machines, except the end bit, which

is much nicer done with hand stiching

Today I feel weepy, and I have a cold, and a cough, which I haven't had in about 8 years. I must be run down, the holidays this year are getting me down, and I vowed not to let them. I have been thinking about my mother and sister and father who have all passed away. And feel my family shrinking, and worry about my own mortality, and my other sister. There are things that I need to do and I have put off this but I made a new bucket list of 12 things that I want to accomplish in my life and I vow to do them. They are not impossible things they are doable. Christmas time is always a season of soul searching and gathering of
all the people that you love close beside you and letting everyone know how much they mean to you. I have vowed for 2012 that I will let the people I know and love everyday how much they mean to me.

Oh for heavens sake I am being so overly dramatic here, must be the fever (lol). Well today I am laying low, feeding a fever and starving a cold, (or whatever it is). Tonight the shopper is coming over after work and the family is having pizza and we are baking. The hubby needs some stuff for work on Friday and so does the shopper, tis the season.

but not a traditional snack. Because my

parents always told us, Santa must be

sick of cookies and milk by the time

he got to our house. So our snack

I cant remember how old I was , but my sister told

me, when she was mad at me. First I wouldn't

believe her, then she pointed out some valid

points, like we didn't have fireplace. Every time

we went to see Santa he was a different Santa

etc. So then when we both knew it became

out mission in life to find every present

before Christmas. One year we

saw a phone jack in our room, hidden

behind something, so we knew we were

getting a phone, so we searched the

house found it, plugged it in

and had phoned my mother

at work to ask her some dumb question. She

never knew we found it. It was princess phone

in pink. Our favourite that year.

even with being so organized, having all the presents bought and wrapped,

tree up, house decorated, outside decorated, I am still busy. I thought

I would be down in the studio, sipping a diet coke, with my feet

up just thinking about art. But no my mind is still thinking

we need more, more presents, more stuff. But yet

my heart says you have enough, its not suppose

to be about the presents, but we all know

that is crap, ask your kids what it is really about.

Do you send christmas cards to your friends and Family?

This is the year I have decided to stop the sending

of Christmas Cards period. Last year it was to

just family. Christmas Cards I quess are

old school now, as you can send your

emails, and facebook, and skype, your

wishes. Years ago (here I go again) my

family (mother etc) would get

a zillion cards, with letters on how

everyone was doing, etc. But now really

there is no need, we used to have christmas

cards strung all over the house.

Do you decorate the outside of your house?

We only put lights on the trees in front of the house

and on the front of the house. They are turning

on tonight. In the neighbourhood where we

live they have a "light up" night, they

make a big deal, have a tent, have horse

sleigh rides, and everyone turns on

the Christmas lights. At the front of

the entrance to where we live, they have

a fountain and some big tall trees,

and they are lighted up. Tonight

Do you always put your Christmas Tree in the same place

and do you have more than one you put up?

I can tell you I only have one tree, I always put it in the

same place. I will tell you a little secret if you haven't

figured it out yet, I am quite the precise and that's

a nice word, kinda of gal, so it goes in the same

space every year.

Now I guess the next question would be:

Do you decorate your tree by a theme, like

same colors , all balls, or bows

Now I must admit my tree is not a theme tree,

its kinda all over the place, things the

shopper made me when she was little, things

I inherited from my parents, things we

bought when we were married. But

I do admire beautiful trees that have

a theme, and beautiful ribbons, but

its not me.

Well usually I do all this stuff on the 18th of the month

and take it down on the 26th. But this month

i am breaking my stringent rules, throwing caution to

the wind and putting the tree up and the decorations

on Saturday. I am going out of my comfort zone (lol)

and breaking free as the shopper says.

I had a little laugh when I read this in the paper, and had to share it

so true. I always make one craft at christmas, it started when

my daughter was born, I wanted to be a good mom and

make crafts with her. She wasn't the least little bit interested, could be because I
was a pushy mom and always had to be in charge (lol) or because it was my way or the
highway... because don't we always know right (lol) I have since learned I am not the boss of her (lol)
So this year without assistance I have decided to make a cone shaped styrofoam
tree filled with bows made from the newspaper, and water colored. In my mind
its going to be beautiful, reality may step in and say differently. So stay tuned for that

Thanksgiving is over, and all that is left is turkey sandwiches

turkey pot pie, and should I go on, until all that

damn turkey is gone. Now its shopping till you drop,

fighting the crowds back when they have what you want,

and coming home with an sense of accomplishment of

getting what you really did not need but had to have

and a little lighter wallet, now isn't that what

thanksgiving is all about (lol).

In Canada they did not like all us Canadians going down ac cross the

border to spend all our hard earned dollars, so they

got into the spirit and now we have Black Friday

shopping, but it doesn't give you quite the

thrill of going across the border just

so you can get that one item

and come back and brag to all your friends

of what you got?

Transfer Magic

I haven't given up on my collage, I am

working on it today, I will take pictures . I am going to try another transfer, this

time one that I learned in http://www.julieprichard.com/blog/
class titled Complex Collage, that is a great
class if your interested in taking one, I learned alot, and
its on sale . I was not paid to say that.(lol) Dont ask
me why I never did that transfer to start with, you know the I can
do it my own way and it will work but never does way
Other than that, I have already been to the airport, to drop
the sister inlaw off to go home, to the vet, to
get devil dogs, leg checked she was limping,
she only stretched the ligament, get her
nails cut, and buy some dog food, $166 dollars
later, I left. But the good news is
in two months she has lost 2 lbs
she is on a diet, unlike her owner who has
not dropped two pounds. Anyway
I am off to work on my collage, stay tuned.

i know what you doing? The funky piece I had

looked like hair. Now every transfer I have

ever done, with every supply i can think of

has failed. But undaunted I vow to try again.

The Ugly Stage

I feel like I have been floating lately, just floating and not doing what

something else. So I have been thinking about what to go onto

I know this is bordering on cutzie, ~~gag me with a spoon~~. Its started just as a piece of textured paper, and a card with fish on it. I started with a pink marker, the fish I used as a picture, and it went from there.

(disclaimer: IT not that I dont like cutzie art, I just dont like if I do it. I asked my daughter the
shopper if it was cutzie and she said no, but she is related to me, she has to lie.

I have been in the organization mode again, and this time decided that I should sort out all my record albums, and decide what to do with them. I love music, and had my first record player (boy do I feel old when I say that ) when I was 10, and along with that my first record Lets Twist Again, Chubby Checker. So along the way I collected many albums, Elton John, Kiki Dee, Eagles, Journey, Madonna. So yesterday I went through them all, and put some of my favourites aside with great cover art, and pulled out the sleeves, that had the old parchment sleeves, and took the rest to the good will. I thought about this long and hard, and decided I could buy all of these on cd, listen to them on my IPOD (ok I don't have an IPOD) but I do have an MP3 player, and it was just stuff sitting around here not being used. And I am trying to lighten my footprint (see I am up on all the new age saying),and I don't have a record player . So now that is done,its onto the VHS tapes....

Mapping of leaves

I started this postcard, with a map and a leaf printed on a peice of paper. I then made some copies of the leaf, and made them different sizes and placed them randomly over the page, and then tore up a map and placed pieces all over. So this is the start of my collage, a little painting just to check colors.

Still left to do is paint and highlight the leaves, maybe tone down some of the map and add a few other elements, maybe some charcoal. I will show it to you on Monday , the finished product.

it up and used it for the buildings. All I did was

add the windows in black ink, and colored them in

with white pen. So what do you think? Go

flying south

the birds are flying south and so I am I, did I

tell you I am off on a little adventure with

the girls on Monday, gone for a week,

but will be posting from the road.

Today is all about the dentist

apparently I grind my teeth, and the

two fillings on either side of my

mouth have eroded so I am

getting them fixed.

After the dentist with a frozen mouth, I guess

I will be coming home, since I will

be drooling, so I plan on doing some art.
