Eating in the name of Art

Pencil Crayon Tiplet #5 - this is my take on the tiplet, the drawing I did not pay to much attention to as you can see, I concentrated more on getting the color down and trying to layer in different colors, adding white and I did not do to much black mucking up (I just could not do it, its just not in me). The link on the left lovelife is where these tiplets are go there she is multi talented and very entertaining....

Summertime in the City.....

Meet my Dad, My grandmother and my great grandmother. I never knew the ladies they died quite young. My dad also died young 54 years old. So as It nears father's day I think of him. My mother never married again. She says once you have found the best you can never replace him. I cant believe I have not posted since Saturday....Whatever have I been doing...working, cleaning, being a good wife, good mother, good daughter. and trying like hell to get some art done in between all these things. The art did not win out, I did not do Studio Friday, Inspiration Thursday last week at all. I went down to the studio tried a few things and came upstairs, when you dont have you just dont have it...The house is quiet the hubby is out of town till tommorow, the daughter is working and just me, I should be creating but no I am cleaning out my clothes cupboard, obsessing and organizing that is what I do when I am stressed. Hubby likes it says I get alot done lol. Well should close want to get that cupboard done before bed, talk to you all tommorow...

Studio Friday...The studio

Take a look around you at your studio space...how much space do you have?
Take a look at your art...how does your space influence your art in any way? Do you create small or large art works? Do you see a parallel?
Take a look at your dream studio space (yippieh!)...what does it look like? What is the layout? Is it big or small? And most important of all: What art do you create in it? Will it be on a larger or smaller scale than before? And what can you do to get closer to your vision this week/month/year?
I have a dedicated place to do my art and I know that I am lucky. There are a few things I wish I had, a island in the middle (if I had a bigger room) with drawers large emough to hold huge watercolour paper, and bins built in for paint and brushes. All and all I am happy with my space. At the moment I am in the process of trying to fix it up (or organize it) for a better flow. My art is on a smaller scale but I have bought a bigger canvas to work on. I keep looking at it and thinking I really should do something with that but its not talking to me yet... I love looking at other studios to get ideas...so this topic this week is great.

In the Style of Mogiliani

Amedeo Mogiliani is one of my favourite painters. I discovered him on the blog of Carla Sonheim (see link). I just love his style and colour. His work can be distinquished by long necks and faces. I am in search of my own style but love his, so some of his style I have incorporated and updated the look to make it my own, still trying to work it out to be mine but trial by error. Thus the word trendy, I made her trendy, haircut etc. This started out as a sketch in my art journal and stayed there, but painted the background. Hope you like it, have you found your style....

What do you do with your free time...

Well where have I been since Sunday. I had "free time". Hubby was out of town, the daughter was working and I was just chilling here at home. Just relaxing and going to bed early for change, and not having to worry about anyone just me. And you know what I kinda of liked it. Didnt create any art but I am well rested. I think sometimes you just need to do that, be alone and reflect...I created this peice tonight, its on 3x5 canvas from the dollar store, a stamp I love (a swimmer in a bathing cap) I love to swim, I tried to create the background like water, found the words in a magazine and here it is. I have decided to try new things, new techniques so you will be seeing more new things from me, I am taking a risk for me (I have a comfort zone). What do you do to take a risk out of your comfort zone. See ya!!

Studio Friday - Recyle

I believe in the Reduce, Recyle, Reuse method. Dont get me wrong I love paper any type of paper, and I love really good canvas for paintings. But I love to hunt down really different objects for my art, old wood, old books, used baby wipes (used for art purposes ) I love to discover new ways to work old thrown out objects and make people want them again. I love the thrill of making something old new again....so here is mine.....a few objects I cant show you them all the work area not big enought.

Inspire me Thursday-Outside my Window Journal

The window

Outside my window the sun shines bright
The sun streaks through the trees a sharp golden light
The leaves on the trees are a bluey green
Like a watercolour that has never been seen

The birds build there nest high up in the trees
Mother bird had the babies they number three
The chicks are hidden and hard to see

The blades of grass grow long in the hot summer sun
The flowers have bloomed and are almost done
Dusk comes quietly and night has begun

Original poem by Lee

James Taylor - Shower the People (Beacon Theatre 1998)

I love James TAylors music and this song..hope you all listen and love it to.

A bad few days...

I have had a bad few days, hubby the handyman that he is, fell off the ladder at home and hit his head on the concrete was unconscious for about 4 minutes, he did wake up just as the ambulance arrived. Scared the shit out of me (pardon the language) went to the hospital, they did a scan of his brain, and found he does have one (just a sick little joke to ease the tension)was ok from the fall, but they did find something else with white matter, he has to go for a MRI on Thursday....So I quess sometimes when you think what did this happen it happens for a reason, otherwise we would not have known about this white matter thing...Oh well I am not going to go crazy about this till Thursday. Anyway he has been home re cooperating from the fall since Wednesday, sleeping alot they said he would, he gets a little dizzy and the world sometimes goes upside down, but the doctor said that would pass soon. So that is where I have been for the past 3-4 days, looking after hubby...I am going to work on some studio Friday and Inspiration Thursday tonight, he is sleeping watching the hockey game, so I have some free time...Talk to you all soon.

What is a typical day like for you? Use your journal to reflect upon your normal routine — jot down a timeline, take photos or include daily ephemera or momentos, write down thoughts about your schedule — any way you choose to illustrate a day in the life of you.

Thought alot about how to document my day, first I was going to draw each activity and then decided just to put it all down randomly, this is a day in the life of Me.

Had a BBq tonight chicken kabobs and veges, Greek salad, etc delicious. The weather cooperated and was nice. I have been in the studio trying to create, not going to great. This little piece was a doddle of a hand and become this. I actually like it , the colours (I used watercolour pencils I happen to be addicted to these now). Bonded with hubby over the weekend and spent some time with my MOM and now its over. So talk to you tommorw..

Studio Friday-May Treat

Treat yourself to something your heart desires, maybe some chocolate or flowers or new art supplies... a nice little something (no spending of a fortune involved). Celebrate yourself !!

I received this shelf for my birthday from my husband. I wanted one for use in my studio to hold some of my stuff. I love IKEA and their shelves. Hope you like my treat...

Inspiration Thursday...Two by Two

This week, let’s challenge ourselves to be copycats. Explore the use of photocopies, image transfers, tracing patterns, repetitive images in your art. Find inspiration in duplication, replication, reproduction, imitation. Interpret the theme as you wish.

I immediately thought of this, I used art felt pens, and watercolour pencils. I had a fun time doing this.

Go one little word...

From that one concept on words, we created a place where all of us, you...me....can explore the power of words. Create ART and be part of something BIG!The first word we have selected seems appropriate for the launch of this site but what does that word mean to you? Here is what the Creative Team has come up for GO!

Go has many meanings to me. Most of all it means GO and do it, find what you want, wwhat you are looking for......

Studio Friday - 3 Wishes

If you had a magic wand what 3 creative issues would you solve? Maybe they are space issues that you are experiencing in your studio or issues about creating itself?

My three wishes are pretty basic:
1. I want to live a creative life
2. I want to continue to be happy with the art I create
3. I would like to be healthy as I age so that I can create a long time.

Loved doing the challenge, I thought of many wishes but really I am pretty basic and these are the 3 that make me happy...

Floaters - Inspire me Thursday

This week let’s be inspired by circles. A round canvas… circular elements… round tools? Challenge yourself to put your own unique spin on this week’s topic.
Here's mine I knew right away what I wanted to do, this are flowers falling down from the sky....I know it sounds odd, but it's conceputal...

Does this look like a Tomatoe...

This is my art journal that I carry around in my purse, its really not to big. I put everything in it, ideas, sketches, things I find that I might use one day. Qutoes, sayings, things that I might make one day with instructions its a carry all for everything.
I created this on a scrap of watercolour paper I had laying around, and with watercolour pencils. First time I have used them. I think it turned out pretty good. I go to this great site, http://lovelife.typepad.com. I cannot say enough good things about her art. She paints, uses pencil crayons, and water colour crayons and gives little mini lesson on using them. She gave me the courage to try them. I love the way they look and how you can blend. I am more tightly controlled you can blend all the colours and get get brights. Hope to talk to you tomorrow.

Who called for Parcel Pickup...

Would you let him pick up a parcel for you!!!When I started this it was something else, just a 5 minute timed drawing, didnt even have sketch pad, did it on lined paper, as it developed I totally imagined him biking around New York City at break neck speed trying to get a letter delivered. What an imagination I have (I wanted to go NY). Had a great day, still got the pesky sore throat. Just watched the series finale of my fav show Gilmore Girls and waiting for House . Hubby is out of town for a few days, the daughter is working, and I am throwing my own little happy party, sketching, laying around not doing to much.....talk to you tommorow

Are you a doodler.....

Yes i admit it, I am a doodler, My favourite place to doodle is while on the telephone. I have a book beside the phone at work, not for doodling, but for writing pertinent notes, etc. But by the time the conversation is finished I have doodled all over the page. One small mark becomes something else. It helps me with practising my art...Today was back to work, still suffering from my throat and cough, but I figure I have already given it to them, last week before I knew i was getting it, so there safe now...The weather is going to be perfect this week, so I might just sit on the deck after dinner tommorow and relax and read some art books.....talk to you then....

Been away...sick

I have been awol for a few days from the blog. Got the flu last week and still have not fully recovered from it. All I have is a really bad sore throat and bad cough. Which in turn gives me headache. Went to the dr. tested for strep (but does not think it is that) said I should live. So went back to the world of the living today, as I have to go to work tommorow. Decided to work on Studio Friday submission, and post a little. Other than that Mothers day has been great, family food and fun...what more do you need to have. So happy mothers day....talk to you tommorow.

Inspire me Thursday-Silence

may 1, photo a day for Month of May

I am doing a mini challenge of taking a photo a day (of may life). This is the first one, you wont see them all but I will post a few. This is what I was doing tonight, having a diet coke (my favourite beverage) sketching in my book, and thinking about how to collage those tags, all while watching TV. I am a multi tasker (ha ha).

Hurray for Vacation days...

I needed a mental health day today, so took a vacation. Slept in, had lunch out, lazed around and did nothing. Finsished cleaning up the studio and reorganizing. I have a great day. The picture is my friend Sandy, she is much better looking than that, but she started her new job today.....and was not even nervous. Am i the only one who would be nervous starting a new job.
I got a couple of snaps of the studio, just little bits to keep you interested. Hope you like them..

Studio Friday...Envy

What do you desire that you are lacking and someone else has? If you could have it would you really want it or is it just a notion? How come you want to have it? What can you do to still that desire so that there is no need to be envious of any thing or anybody?

Sometimes that green eyed monster visits me, usually its not material things. Usually its all about how something is done, talent etc. But bascially I am pretty happy with what I have...

Happy one year old birthday blog.

Well today is 1 year since I started this blog and a few thousand visits, so no complaining from me. But i think it time to change it up a bit. I visit blogs regularly and have a few favourites, I like to see what they do with their blogs. One I visit regular is Oceans and Forest Walks(and if I knew how to put in a link I would) has a great blog with lots of cool things, pictures that move in and out and create visual interest, songs etc. This is the year or the month I should say (May) I have dedicated to updating my blog with cool things, I think it will add interest ,so stay tuned for a few new things. Some of the same old ones, me, art, and chatter....I am excited to try outand learn these new techniques....Well post later tonight my Studio Friday (Iam just a day behind)..

Inspire Me Thursday-Words

,This week, let’s take a look at words. Words found in the pages of a book, on a sign, in a handwritten note. Let the words inspire you — not just the meaning of the words, but also the appearance of the words and the relationships between the letters.

I took this picture a couple of years ago in Vancouver, B.C. and actually I submitted to the visual dictionary back then, I thought it was a fasinatng project. The picture is of a train station in Vancouver that is call Central. It is a very old train station with lots of visual history. But it is no more for trains and is now a bus station. After travelling through Europe I found that most train stations are located in the centre of a town and are a hub of activity, really the heart of the town. This train station was also like that and has many stories to tell. The sign called to me to take the picture on a cloudy, cold, rainy day, and here it is....

Inspire me Thursday-Eco Art

This week the focus is on Eco Art. Think green. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Honor our planet. Turn some trash into treasure.

This has been created using a wet one. I use wet ones to clean my brushes after paintng, it had dried and I used a black sharpie for the image, and used a leftover peice of pink folder for the back. I like the way it turned out

Rembering your PenPals....

I was just reading a blog, and she was remembering her penpals.
And it got me thinking, I had one penpal her name was Jane and she lived in England. We would write letters every week and send little items in the mail and pictures, slowly and I dont know why we stopped writing. We never met, never even talked on the phone but we both felt connected to each other. I wish I could remember her last name and her address, but not thinking like any 13 year old I did not keep anything back then. If I had only known.....Well it has been a hectic two days at work. Yesterday a course all day, I know how can that be bad, it is espeically when it is boring....it was the longest day in history. Today we had people away and the phones never quit ringing. I am hoping to get down to the studio tonight, so the blog will be short and sweet. The above picture does not indicate to anyone that I know how to draw flowers, take my word I do. Well talk to you tommorow.....

Fish Tales....

Well all is quiet in the house, hubby is in bed, the daughter is still at work and I just came up from the studio. I am working on painting, as you can see by the picture, I need to improve my painting and drawing skills, and as I have said many times prat ice, practice only gets you better. Other than that, a quiet weekend which is just what I needed after a hetic week at work. Sunday you will find me and hubby putting up the shelf I got at Ikea that I got for my birthday and organizing the studio. It seems that is all I do, I cannot create in a mess, but can make a mess while creating. Having my mom over for roast tommorow night and thats the weekend in a nutshell. Hope you like my painting...and talk to you tommorow.

Who knows what a Turkey Vulture looks like...

Well this is a picture I drew a few weeks ago, I saw a picture in the paper of a "turkey vulture" and it got my eye and I sketched it. I think I need practice in the animal drawing department. But you only get better with practice. I want to thank you for the nice comments about my blog and keeping it up. I was really having a bad couple of weeks, but I am feeling better now. Sometimes the stuff you write you look back and read it and think who wants to read that crap. Now I could talk about stuff that really doesn't interest me, and I think if you read my stuff you must like what I talk about, even if it is about nothing. I am in the process of creating a book called "Bertha's Closet" she is my grandmother born and bred in England hence the name. I have been in the planning stages of this collage book, I have pictures, and I am going to draw garments from the time period etc. I am excited about this project, it will take awhile but Its something to work on, when other art projects are going badly...Well must go my shows are almost on, greys antomy, etc. I don't watch to much TV but I do like my shows. Talk to you tomorrow.....and think good thoughts...

Virginia Tech

Today is not a day for trivilities on this blog it is a day for remembering....even though I do not know these students and teachers, I feel pain. I feel compassion for those left behind trying to come to terms with their child or there husbands senseless death. It strikes terror into the heart of all people that there is no safe place from violence. I will remember.....

I am back...

Well I know I have been away awhile, but I am back. Since the trip I have been down in the dumps and wondering if I should give up the blog and even my art....which hasnt been going that well. So I took a little break from blogging and just puttered around in the studio and I feel much better, I created this peice from an old medical book my mom gave me. It still has some work needed, but I like the way it turned out. I did it on a canvas. I have let things slide around here, and in the studio, but I definitely am feeling better and ready to take on some stuff. So thanks for reading.....

One last picture of the mountains of sedona i Promise

1. Today was great, my daughter got accepted into College. She doesnt really know what she wanted to take, so decided to take alot of computer courses, to start which will serve her well in the working world and the school world. One further step into independance I hope I can handle this next step she will move away. I told her where she goes we go.
2. You probably wondering two things hows the diet and wheres the diet cards. Well truthfully the diet has not been going great the trip and all. So its back to doing the diet and really trying. The weather is here great, snow gone, weather warmer. Its good just to get out and walk.
3. Now hows the art going, not great. Since I got back, I have not done much, puttered around, have a few ideas but nothing specific. It seems like I am having a art breakdown. So cleaned the studio and started reading some of my art books for inspiration.
Well thats enough of nothing for one night, stay tuned I hope to do some art tommorow night.......keep your fingers crossed.

The Hills of Sedona....

Well its is Saturday and I had a great day today. With my buddies we made Soccoer people. My friend is a soccer coach to a bunch of ladies and made them all soccer pins for the end of the year. We all helped and got the job done. I must say I did not help, as I just got my nails done in arizona and frankly cant do a thing with them yet, I can type. What a Diva i am (lol). I put my two cents in, I also helped with the clean up after lunch so they could finish the job and acted as offical photographer. Beads are not my thing, but I do like the finished product. The picture has alot of white space I know but I wanted you to the pins are they cool or what. One of the legs has a slilver soccer ball.
Other than that tonight I am going to do some art I have decided on the project and you will probably get to see it tommorow. We are off to the mother in laws for turkey tommorow, I am bringing a ham, and the vegetables, the daugther is bringing salad, and dessert. So not to much for the mother inlaw to do. Well should go, am cooking ribs for supper and I hear them calling me. Have a great Saturday and hope the Easter Bunny is good to you, I will talk to you tommorow...

Orange Trees with Oranges....

I want to live in a place where orange trees grow on the blvd and you can just pick them. But since that isn't happening in the near future here is a picture of one in Arizona.

1. Haven not made any art since coming back from my trip. One I have been sick
with a bad cold and achy body and not feeling any arty feelings.
2. Today was a day I could have made some art but just had this lazy feeling and bad cough and lazed around on the couch all day long.
3. Tomorrow it is off to a friends to help make some jewelery for her soccer team.
Well this is short and sweet but wanted to post even if today i just feel blah...

Home Home on the Range.....

Made it home safe and sound, a long plane ride, first at 9:00 PM to Las Vegas and then at 12:00 to home. I did play the slots at the airport and won about 50.00 with a 20 so reall won 30.00 then I left. Well am all settled in at home, except have not unpacked the suitcase, done any of the laundry or done any art. I am going done to the studio tonight I am itching to do some art. The picture above is of the first mission in scottsdale, it was in the process of being redone. Love the design and the colour which is white, I like clean bright colours.....Hubby was glad for us to be home, for some home cooking, I dont know what he survived on while we were gone but no cooking was done at our house. Well gotta go, I might post later on....

I love Arizona

I love Arizonia, the weather is perfect. If only I could bottle this weather up and take it home. Hubby said today on his way home from work it was snowing, not a great way to arrive home. We leave this great state tommorow night at about 9:00 and spend 2 hours layover in Vegas, not to much time to get into trouble. Maybe they have slots in the airport. I have been to Vegas a few times, but I cant remember about the slots in the airport. We have been all over today, taking new freeways and actually ending up where we want to be....totatly amazing that two hicks from Canada can travel these freeways. My daughter and i had a great time on our holiday. We bonded well, not to many years will she be living at home with us and then her own family, so this was good, hubby couldnt come. He would not have enjoyed himself anyway way to much shopping for him. Today we went downtown scottsdale, old scottsdale, it was great got lots of snaps , so this will be my last post, will post again on Wednesday with pictures from the trip......Thanks for reading the adventures of Thelma and Louise hopefully to be continued for a couple more years together.....

It reached 94 degrees here today......

Yep it was sure hot here today, hubby said there was snow at home. I am thinking Phoenix is the place for me, sunny blue skies, and warm weather. We had a busy day today we relaxed by the pool, and then it was off to see Scottsdale, that is the place I want to live, it is a suburb of Phoenix, and that's where the money is and all the golf courses. Tonight we are off to see the new Adam Sadler movie can hardly wait I really want to see it. Only two more days here and then it is back to the real world of work and home cooking. Well must go the movie awaits. talk to you all soon, (maybe tomorrow) it is suppose to be just as warm or warmer.

Just out relaxing by the pool...its going to be 90

We went to Sedona yestereday, it took 2.5 hours to get there, but it was worth it.

Things I know about Sedona:
1. You drive through the mountains, and you see the soil change to red
2. It is a big tourist community - Just like Banff in Alberta big on souvenirs
3. Just like Banff, little or no parking for the tourists.

Thelma and Louise the journey continues...

Hi from Phoenix day two and still cant find Brad Pitt.
If you don't know the story of the movie Thelma and Louise picked up Brad Pitt on the road and had their way with him. Sorry to say I cant find my Brad Pitt..

1. Today was a busy day 10:00 hit the freeway and did not get home until 10:00 tonight. Needless to say I am tired, Louise (Lyndsey) I am sure could go all night.
2. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory - (not to be confused with the Cheesecake Restaurant in my home town) it does not compare. This was a fabulous restaurant the portions were huge and the service was great. Plus the place was jam packed.
3. Tomorrow we are off to Se dona for the day. I am looking forward to this little side trip, it is suppose to be beautiful, serene and lots of ops to take pictures.
4. My navigator is doing a spectacular job, I wanted to get GPS at the airport, but she is just as good as GPS.
5. Well should go , stay tuned to day three the Sedona adventure, and maybe another Brad Pitt.

I am a travelling gal.....

1. Made it to Phoneix, US Airways, no problems, no lost luggage, no delay on time
2. Rented the car no problems
3. Found the hotel with little difficulty, my little navigator (Lyndsey) did a great job and we were all over all day long.
4. Got to the hotel around 4:00 and were assigned our room. Problem, didnt like it, looks out on to a busy road, all the rest of the rooms look out onto the pool. Otherwise the hotel is really nice , clean, bright, modern. I talked to the guy at the desk said we are staying 6 nights and really would like a room with a view. He could not have been nicer and we are moving tommorow.
5. Lyndsey already found a deal at Last Chance (Neman Marcus outlet) a juicy bag that was a thousand a home (not kidding about this price) and 40 here of course we bought it. Almost saw a fight between two ladies fighting over the same purse they grabbed it out of each other hands. We will be back the deals are great, I did not buy anything but the week is young.
6. Keep checking back for the amazing adventures of Lee and Lyndsey...I will be blogging everyday...stay tuned....
