The dark ages.....

Just in case you wanted to know what I used here is the breakdown:
I had a faux piece of paper that had this typewriter on it
I then had some scrapbook scraps (the circles)
the cardboard, I had on my worktable I had paint splatters on it
and the hi sign came from a pair of Hurley jeans my daughter had
and I cut it down to fit
then I aged the paper with some Tim Holtz distress ink

Do you know I learned how to type in high school.  When I was in high school back in the dark ages, if you could type you could be assured of a job.  Another item that has gone the way of the not made any more.  But let me tell you learning how to type was one of the best things I ever did.  I can't imagine typing with two fingers.

  1. Me, too...I learned to type in high school. And I had a lovely little Smith-Corona typewriter that I wish I still had!

Your ICADs just keep getting better and better.

  2. yup - I learned in high school and I'm so glad I did. In college, I used to type people's papers for $1 per page to earn some spending money. this was the mid 80s - right before the explosion of personal computers. No one in the dorms had computers - we all had typewriters, or had to go to the computer lab.

  3. This is a great piece!

As much as I love texting and my iphone, I still love a full keyboard. Learning how to type was probably the most practical and transferable skill I learned in high school - I was able to get a very good job because of it which set me on a good career track. All because I knew how to type! You're right, don't think that can happen anymore, sadly.

  4. Great piece. Love it! I was thinking about my old typewriter just the other day. I didn't really learn to type at school but taught myself. As a teenager I wrote two manuscripts for novels on my typewriter and various other bits and pieces of writing. I miss the sound and the satifying thud of the key hitting the ribbon. The look of the inky letters is also very lush! Thank you for the reminder Lee.

  5. Hi Lee, I have always said that my high school typing class was the best/most useful class I ever took! I had to type SO many papers in college because of all of my English and history classes; I don't know what I would have done if I couldn't type as fast as I did! I love your artwork here.

  6. I am in agreement with everyone: typing has been a most useful skill and has served me well over the years. I can't say I loved the class when I was 12...the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog...a gazillion times!

  7. LOL! I did that too since I am of the dark ages too!
I did a class called secreterial and office skills and we learnt to type, shorthand and how to use the banda ink hand copier... no photocopiers back then!
