Studio Summer Brunch....

Summer time calls for a light snack for lunch. What is your favourite summer snack you treat yourself to in your studio while having a break from creating? Is it hearty or sweet, cold or warm? What are its colours? Is there a dream scenario you keep wishing for at times for a lunch, too? Do you have a favourite drink as well.

Yes I like to eat in the studio, when creating munching seems to go hand in hand. I try to eat healthy with my favourite fruits. But I love salsa and chips, and diet coke...I cannot live without my diet coke. Hope you all enjoy it..Great topic.

My Latin period continues.....

Yes these are some of the sketches that will go with the serial art, of course they will be bigger painted etc.
After all these are just 5 minute sketche ideas and painted with pens high tech I am...The tango dancer was just a whim, she will not be going in the series, I tried to indicate that she was dancing and her hair was out of control. All it does is look like a mess of hair. Oh well, tonight I am working on my Studio Friday submission and having an early night, last night it was 1:30 and I get up at 6:00. It is hard to function.....

serial art...

This little 5 minute sketch (please disregard the strawberry thats a whole other issue) has developed into a project in my mind of a series of 4 drawings tentively called the Tango Shoe Diaries, with a continuing story on each of the 4 tango shoe pictures. I know sounds compeletly off the wall but my mind is racing and I am totally exicted, I have the story down, and two sketches of tango shoes, the other one I will show you tommmorow. The story is in rough draft and will be on the picture. I am going to do it on picture blocks, with paint, sheetmusic, old maps (if i can find any). I am totatly ready. These week I am roughing out the design in my sketch book, and the story. Next week I will do the same (as I away visiting the sister) the following week I am on vacation at home, and will start the series. If you can think of a different name let me know, so far that is the only one I can think of...

Inspire Me Thursday-Connection

I thought alot about this weeks challenge - connection. I believe we are all connected. I mean you have to have some sort of connection with someone, or something or else you would be "left adrift in a sea of loneliness. You can have a people connection, spiritual connection, animal connection, art connection it is endless. People need a connection to justify their existence. I made this art peice, from a kids puzzle, interconnection, circles that connect....

10 minute sketch - Rolex

Just a little sketch of my daughters boyfriends dog. I did not get to the eyes as I did this sketch from memory and I did not want to get the eyes wrong. There is a beautiful story behind this dog. My daughter and her boyfriend were on their way home one cold winter night minus 40 that is how cold it was. They saw this dog running (puppy) around loose. The boyfriend stopped the car and after about 30 minutes coached the dog into the car. He took him home, looked for tags, went to the vet to see if it had an ear tag implanted but no. Somebody had adandoned this dog and left it to die, we don't know how long he had been running around in that cold weather. He took him to the SPCA in case somebody was looking for him, left him there for three days, nobody claimed him, so he took him back. Decided he better get his shots, and he kept him.
He is the most gentle loving dog, but must have been mistreated because he is scared if you move suddenly. ANyway a happy story they named him Rolex, I call him Rollie and I love him just as much as my daughter and her boyfriend.,

Inspsiration Thursday Wood

This week, let’s find inspiration in Wood. Think about the various uses of wood throughout time, both practical and decorative. Consider the symbolism of wood, such as the wood element in feng shui. Look around and explore wood in your environments, furniture in your home, building structures in your town, trees in nature.
This little peice of wood I have had around for ages I have 20 more the same size. I got them at a thrift store in a baggie, did not know what I was goiong to do but have found a use for several. This little bathing beauty is one of my delights (I love anything to do with water and old bathing suits (image courtsey of fifi lepew) she was kind enough to share this image with me. I gessoed the wood, painted it a few times, rub away some of the paint to give it that old feeling, also sanded it, printed out the image in black and white, added a little colour and here it is.
There are much better peices out there, but hey I like the look of this one, I think it looks like I just found it in a junk store.

One Little Word .....MY

For the One Little word challenge which is MY. Here is mine, My Favourite Drink..Which happens to be a Salted Cesar with or without Vodka. In the states I believe they call it a bloody mary. Now why would I do this for the challenge. I wanted it to be light hearted and that is the first thing I thought of. I must have wanted one....

Studio Friday - Imprefection -Hand art

Wabi-sabi (in Kanji: 侘寂) represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centred on the acceptance of transience. The phrase comes from the two words wabi and sabi. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" (according to Leonard Koren in his book Wabi-Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers). It is a concept derived from the Buddhist assertion of the Three marks of existence — Anicca, or in Japanese, 無常 (mujyou), impermanence.

This weeks studio friday as all about imperfect. Thats what my art is, it can never be perfect because I could just go on working on peice forever. When I feeling blue about my art I think did Picasso ever have a bad art day. Did he ever just roll it up and throw it out. I bet he did, he could not have been perfect all the time...

Eating in the name of Art

Pencil Crayon Tiplet #5 - this is my take on the tiplet, the drawing I did not pay to much attention to as you can see, I concentrated more on getting the color down and trying to layer in different colors, adding white and I did not do to much black mucking up (I just could not do it, its just not in me). The link on the left lovelife is where these tiplets are go there she is multi talented and very entertaining....

Studio Friday...The studio

Take a look around you at your studio space...how much space do you have?
Take a look at your art...how does your space influence your art in any way? Do you create small or large art works? Do you see a parallel?
Take a look at your dream studio space (yippieh!)...what does it look like? What is the layout? Is it big or small? And most important of all: What art do you create in it? Will it be on a larger or smaller scale than before? And what can you do to get closer to your vision this week/month/year?
I have a dedicated place to do my art and I know that I am lucky. There are a few things I wish I had, a island in the middle (if I had a bigger room) with drawers large emough to hold huge watercolour paper, and bins built in for paint and brushes. All and all I am happy with my space. At the moment I am in the process of trying to fix it up (or organize it) for a better flow. My art is on a smaller scale but I have bought a bigger canvas to work on. I keep looking at it and thinking I really should do something with that but its not talking to me yet... I love looking at other studios to get ideas...so this topic this week is great.

In the Style of Mogiliani

Amedeo Mogiliani is one of my favourite painters. I discovered him on the blog of Carla Sonheim (see link). I just love his style and colour. His work can be distinquished by long necks and faces. I am in search of my own style but love his, so some of his style I have incorporated and updated the look to make it my own, still trying to work it out to be mine but trial by error. Thus the word trendy, I made her trendy, haircut etc. This started out as a sketch in my art journal and stayed there, but painted the background. Hope you like it, have you found your style....

What do you do with your free time...

Well where have I been since Sunday. I had "free time". Hubby was out of town, the daughter was working and I was just chilling here at home. Just relaxing and going to bed early for change, and not having to worry about anyone just me. And you know what I kinda of liked it. Didnt create any art but I am well rested. I think sometimes you just need to do that, be alone and reflect...I created this peice tonight, its on 3x5 canvas from the dollar store, a stamp I love (a swimmer in a bathing cap) I love to swim, I tried to create the background like water, found the words in a magazine and here it is. I have decided to try new things, new techniques so you will be seeing more new things from me, I am taking a risk for me (I have a comfort zone). What do you do to take a risk out of your comfort zone. See ya!!

Studio Friday - Recyle

I believe in the Reduce, Recyle, Reuse method. Dont get me wrong I love paper any type of paper, and I love really good canvas for paintings. But I love to hunt down really different objects for my art, old wood, old books, used baby wipes (used for art purposes ) I love to discover new ways to work old thrown out objects and make people want them again. I love the thrill of making something old new again....so here is mine.....a few objects I cant show you them all the work area not big enought.

Inspire me Thursday-Outside my Window Journal

The window

Outside my window the sun shines bright
The sun streaks through the trees a sharp golden light
The leaves on the trees are a bluey green
Like a watercolour that has never been seen

The birds build there nest high up in the trees
Mother bird had the babies they number three
The chicks are hidden and hard to see

The blades of grass grow long in the hot summer sun
The flowers have bloomed and are almost done
Dusk comes quietly and night has begun

Original poem by Lee

James Taylor - Shower the People (Beacon Theatre 1998)

I love James TAylors music and this song..hope you all listen and love it to.

A bad few days...

I have had a bad few days, hubby the handyman that he is, fell off the ladder at home and hit his head on the concrete was unconscious for about 4 minutes, he did wake up just as the ambulance arrived. Scared the shit out of me (pardon the language) went to the hospital, they did a scan of his brain, and found he does have one (just a sick little joke to ease the tension)was ok from the fall, but they did find something else with white matter, he has to go for a MRI on Thursday....So I quess sometimes when you think what did this happen it happens for a reason, otherwise we would not have known about this white matter thing...Oh well I am not going to go crazy about this till Thursday. Anyway he has been home re cooperating from the fall since Wednesday, sleeping alot they said he would, he gets a little dizzy and the world sometimes goes upside down, but the doctor said that would pass soon. So that is where I have been for the past 3-4 days, looking after hubby...I am going to work on some studio Friday and Inspiration Thursday tonight, he is sleeping watching the hockey game, so I have some free time...Talk to you all soon.
