The taste of spring

Well I am here to report, that I will not be making the crockpot Lasagna anymore. I did not like it, it tended to be on the dry side.  I like my own version in the oven 100 percent better.  Some things are just not meant to be cooked in a crockpot.  My soup always turns out terrific in the crockpot yesterday I made a big batch of hamburger soup, I made  it for the neighbor along with some homemade banana bread.  They had to put there dog down after 14 years, and they were so upset, I was upset as well.  So I thought comfort food for them would be good.  I never understood how people could be upset over a dog, but now that I have a dog I totally understand. Today I am taking the shoppers boyfriend to the tire store, he had to get a new tire, due to all the potholes we have in this city.  The weather is so bad here, extreme cold, melting, cold again, the potholes have been developing.

Yesterday I went down to the studio and worked on my canvas, which I totally painted over twice.  Got disheartened with the crap on the canvas, and just sat down and did some collage, until I felt better, and totally with a new eye looked at the canvas. I really have a hard time with painting, I don't feel comfortable using that medium ,  The expectations that we put on ourselves sometimes is to much, and when we cant meet those it almost makes you throw up your hands in frustrations and say that's it I cant do this anymore and give up. The thing is I have to remember I am still learning and that not everything turns out.  Okay I have spilled my guts enough for today, and got it out there.  So do you have any problems with paint, do you have a handle on everything that you want to do?

  1. great artwork! yes sometimes the life of trying to paint is so filled with frustrations that I wonder why I even try to do it! but we will always return and try again and again until one day - surprise, surprise - we have gotten better and maybe we don't hate it so much after all! (of course we love it - that's why we do it!)

  2. does ANYONE have a handle on everything they want to do? If so, I don't want to meet them :)
Every single thing I make teaches me something, whether I like the results or not. I try to focus on that when I'm feeling frustrated or impatient. The more I do, the more I learn and the more I learn, the more I improve. Plus I have a quote pinned on the wall that says "be gentle with your expectations". why oh why are we so hard on ourselves?

  3. My favourite quote is from Winnie the Poo. He said: I have never done that before, so I'm sure I can do it! Isn't that a great approach?
As I see it, we need to have some not that good results to really appreciate the good ones. And as Karen said, we keep on learning no matter the result.
To reach our top, we need to climb. I understand you're in the middle of a climb right now. Good luck!

  5. Once I tried to analyze why I enjoy starting new things, taking new classes, etc., and I figured it out (for me): I love being a beginner! There are no expectations of "already knowing" how to do something. I'm much kinder to myself when I begin something and eventually I do get better. The nicest part of that theory is that I'm always learning, so I'm always beginning. Learning about anything is never-ending, don't you think? I've never been a master at anything and that's ok.

  6. I have this quote on my emails - "Every artist was once an amateur" it's by Ralph Waldo Emerson and I think we all should stop and remember that. No matter what you're trying to learn, everyone else had to start from the beginning. No one ever just picked up a brush and made a masterpiece.

If you really want to paint just keep at it and sooner or later it will come to you. But make sure it's really what you want to do and not just that everyone else is doing it. You know I'm one of your biggest fans. I love love love your art and can't imagine you making something bad.

  7. Expectations! Yes those. Horrid things. I saw an advert for puppies yesterday and almost stopped to look.
