Inquiring minds want to know

today is a mish mash of things.  Tried to go to that movie Interstellar yesterday, but we

got the time wrong, so instead we went to the new movie with Brad Pitt, Fury, a world war II movie, I thought the acting was great, but the violence was way to much for me and my friend, body parts flying everywhere. I had a couple of questions on my blog that I thought I would answer here, instead of emailing you the answers. 

 

One of the questions was when I do Throwback Wednesday does it mean Its an older picture that I have used on my blog before.  And the answer is yes, because as you all know your readership changes and the art you showed before they haven't seen.  And its a good way to show old art, if you have nothing new to show.

 

One of the ladies on the blog said in Europe the shops close on the 24 of December and don't open until the 27.  I can tell you not here.  They usually close about 5.00 on Christmas eve, some open on Christmas day, and the 26th they open extra early

and we have our boxing day sales, kind of like black Friday in the U.S.

 

In Canada we make a big fuss about Christmas, and not so much thanksgiving.  In the US its the opposite.  We always have the 25 off and everybody used to have the 26 off as well, but not anymore, the retail market has to make money.

 

Christmas dinner is Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and dessert.  Christmas eve at our house is all about finger foods,

Boxing day is left overs after you have come home exhausted from shopping....

News Years day is a little better, most shops are closed, we have a ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetables and anything else that happens to be laying around.  And of course the house is full of desserts, candies and chocolates.  At my house we open presents on the morning of the 25th before breakfast, have a big breakfast, and then clean up the mess from opening the presents, and get the food ready for Christmas Dinner.  We are a small family 3 of us and my mother in-law.  So really its not to much work.  Our neighbour who is Romanian cooks pork, that there traditional Christmas dinner, and they have different customs as well.  I would love to hear yours how you celebrate, what you cook, do you buy lots of presents, do you just buy a few, do you do stockings, etc.

Just a short post today, another flower drawing that I did last

night.  Still trying to get that one picture that I want

to enter into the contest.  Today is PJ day, football (for the hubster)

crockpot roast for dinner, and some time in the studio,\

I am in the clean mode lately and am purging old crap

that I have collected and never used.  What's on your Sunday"

Pumpkin pie, and sweet potatoe fries

 

the last of the nice fall days are just about upon us

so tonight its bbq hamburgers and

sweet potatoes fries in the oven,

and pumpkin pie

next weekend is thanksgiving around these parts

and I was given this delicious pumpkin pie

by my neighbour, so the shopper and

the boyfriend are coming for dinner, so

should be gone by tonight.

Sweating the small stuff

well today I was doing my wifely duty and doing

a little bit of clean up.  The hubster is very good

about keeping things clean. I am making

Chili for dinner, its cool, and windy today,

so the fall food comes out.  Didn't find

the right exercise shirt, but managed to spend

an hour at the gym, and I even sweated, so

I must have been working hard. So what did

you do today?

In your face.....

 

more of Frida on the way tomorrow

today I was out all day   having lunch,

shopping for new runners, and new pj's and

what ever else I could find.  So no time

for arting up Frida, but I did have this

in your face flower picture done

and all I used was markers.....I happen

to love the way markers make everything

stand out.

A little rant

you all know how I love colour, well here is an example of how much, you need your

sunglasses for this one
I like to take online courses, but I have taken a lot of them, but I have never made
one thing from them.  So I took a bit of a step back and decided that I am going to make one piece of art from each class that I have taken, so stay tuned for that.  But alas I could not resist taking a class from my girl crush Alisha Burke, and one from
Robin Marie Smith.  They are both reasonably priced and lots information that
is new and refreshing.  I see the latest on online classes is to let you have
the class for only so long and charge you a year at a time.  I will not be taking
these classes.  I realize the artist who puts on these classes puts a lot of time
and effort into creating the class, but I want something back for my money. Anways enough of my rant, its back to business talking about trivial day to day things.

The power of the Flower

Wow, thanks for all those lovely comments, I appreciate them all.  I have decided I am going to go for at least another year,,,,with a little summer break, don't know when

yet.  I didn't join the index card a day for june challenge, because

last year I did every single day, and was wiped clean by the

end of the month,  This month I joined two classes the

first class is sketching and doodling flowers by Alisha

cleaning the house because Mr. Clean aka the husband has been
out of town and I of course have been sitting around drinking
fine wine, and not much elee (lol)

Help I need somebody

 

lately I have been noticing a trend away

from the blog and just facebook, twitter or

whatever the new flavour of the month is.

I have been thinking a lot about finally

letting go of this blog, over the years

I have been saying that every now and then,

but kept on going.  But I have less

and less to say on this blog.  I have

read many blogs that have interesting,

thought provoking ideas on them, and

it makes you want to come back to them.

Its not that I don't have interesting or thought

provoking ideas, its just that is not

the kind of blog I wanted this to be when

I first started out. I at first was happy

with two readers (family lol), now I have

grown to 40 readers a day, and that's great.

But really why do you come here, my art,

my thoughts what? I want to make this

blog worthwhile to visit but I am stumped

help.........

Crappy Art

 

it all started with pink and orange

which you cant see

but its there

then I used Julie Baltzer Stencil

and changed it up\

added some flowers

to much white

and this is what came out

not what I expected

and I don't like it

Where's Waldo

 

This is a cover page for the dlp project

the task for same colour pallet

the green really is a teal color

but doesn't show up on here very good

I made the birds to blend in, and try

and find them, hence the title.

If you don't know Where's Waldo ,

there usually is page full of people and

you have to find Waldo. I had

fun making this page.

Today I went out with my friend, who

is on her way home in B.C.  They

left there winter home in Phoenix,

so we did lunch with our other friend,

did a little shopping, and little visiting,

and some errands, all and all I had a great day

 



A exchange tip.....

 

the skin color does not turn out to good on the computer in

real life it is very smooth, I tried to fix it in Photoshop elements

but it looked worse.

I created this while watching TV, just used markers.  I have

to make these ladies smile more, or is that just a part

of my style. 

 

The Circle Journal that I am a participant in just arrived yesterday.  This is

almost the end of the swap, only one more after this one.  I had

fun doing it, and for sure would do it again.  The art in the journals have been

amazing.  The only downsize is the postal rates, but you have to

factor that in when signing up for these things.  So if you ever are

thinking of doing a journal exchange think about where the

participants are from.  Just a tip from me.

How do I collage .....let me show you

this is a collage made by all of my own elements

first I glued to 6x6 scrapbook pages together

put on some orange paint to start, randomly didn't fill up the card

all the art I do , even the doodles I scan so I can use it for

collage

the buildings were a doodle I had so I cut them out

pasted them on the card

the bird you have seen before, cut him out

added some paint, add some black and white pen

stamped in the word fly

and there you have it an instant collage

anyone can do it



Cardboard fun

now here is the rest of it, sometimes only one thing in your painting was

worth your time, and you guessed it, it was that flower

I did this on a piece of cardboard that was lying around in the

studio, I was just fooling around, seeing what worked and

what didn't, and I got that one flower, that was a keeper.

So the moral of the story is, I didn't waste any great paper

just cardboard, got one great idea off it, and had fun. Sometimes

that's all you can ask for....

Problem solver

 

that pink stuff on her cheek is a bleed thru from the other page, so

are all the other splotches, I think they give the page character

not perfect just like me

I did not join the 29 faces this year , though I did manage

to finish them last year, it drained me of faces for awhile,

so I decided I would just play along at my own speed

it I feel like drawing a face I will, if not oh well.

Just because I am a fly by the seat kinda of girl (not)

The healing art of the flower...

I just noticed I seem to use this bright pink a lot in my art

I like it because it pops off the page for me

today is a busy day

I had just listed all I had to do, and just deleted it

you don't want to know what I have to do today

but most of the day is the hospital

they are still doing a ton of tests of him

I think today bout of tests will do it

Watercolour versus acrylic

you know I don't paint enough with watercolour I

love the dreamy way it always turns out,

my favourite will always be acrylic, because

of that vibrant color you can get.

Today my friend Gail and I who I met right here on my blog

went out for lunch and to the art store, and we had a

great time.  Other than that no news is good new right (lol)

just read online that

most retirees are going back to work

maybe there is hope for the hubster yet
